As much as 20% of the U.S. population avoids going to the dentist because of fear. We believe dentistry must meet the challenge of reducing patient anxiety over dental treatment. Doc works hard to create an Anxiety-Free dental office for our patients.
An Anxiety free office starts with creating an environment that is friendly and non-clinical. Having a fun look at wall art and vintage Rock n Roll posters can help to achieve this. Displays of art and Rock n Roll memorabilia in various areas help create the feel that you are not in a medical facility. Our office is friendly, supportive, and trained in dental anxiety, which helps tremendously reduce dental fear.
Most people know that Novocaine can block tooth discomfort. But not everyone has had the opportunity to experience a painless Novocain injection, which is most often possible using a slow injection and distraction techniques.
Additional measures to relax the anxious patient include the use of Nitrous Oxide (laughing) gas. This safe, relaxing gas can give a patient a relaxed, euphoric, brave feeling. Gas is delivered through a small nosepiece. There are no residual effects, and patients feel normal a minute after ceasing to breathe nitrous oxide.
Hypnotic drugs can create a sleepy state for patients with an extremely high anxiety level, obliterating the anxiety barrier from the treatment. We call this Oral Conscious Sedation. We can accomplish hours of dental care in just one visit. Patients have little or no recollection of the work, and some don't even recall their visit to the dentist!
